He works both within and without a consciousness of twentieth century painting, applying and plying paint with the same vigour and freedom as the abstract expressionists, or of the artists liberated into the artistic world of St.Ives, but at the same time Humphreys has found his own personal voice in West Cork in the early twenty-first century.”
